
Bio
Amethyst Garza is a local choreographer and performer based in San Marcos, Texas and is
attending Texas State University where she working on a Bachelor of Art in dance. Ms. Garza has
had the opportunity to do contract work through Tobin Center in San Antonio. This work
composed of drill team technique, cleaning competition routines, and competition choreography
for local high school drill teams. Throughout her college career she has danced in
Choreographers Showcase in two production years from 2022-2023. One piece choreographed
by Shay Lee Hartung (2022) and another piece choreographed by Brandon Gonzalez (2023).
The most recent performance being the BFA Showcase in 2024 in a senior thesis piece by
Alyssa Trilops.
Recently Amethyst’s research interest has been on dance therapy and all the benefits that come
alongside it from expressing emotions to being able to have open communication in various
sides other than words. Ms. Garza is so inspired by all the body can do and say while never truly
speaking. She believes that we as not only dancers have such expressive ways of
communicating so why not use it to better one and other.
